My early returns with it are:
It's really good.
There's going to be lots of "familiar" if you've played Fallout 3 and 4, but there are several variations on how things work. It didn't take very long to adjust.
The biggest variation, IMHO, is how VATS is handled (it's now real-time VATS). I think they handled it in the best possible way they could.
The second biggest variation, also IMHO, is how SPECIAL perks are handled. I think it's a much more strategic way of doing things than it was before. I like it.
Almost every player I've encountered has been respectful to enthusiastically welcoming. Some have even been helpful and/or in-character (like the guy that was offering trade services). Only one person attacked me, but you do little or no damage to someone unless they fight back. I honestly didn't see my health bar move, and he whacked me several times before moving on.
